Vision Statement: The IT Academy prepares students with the 21st century skills necessary to be productive citizens and creative problem solvers in a technologically advancing world.
We are the Academy of Information Technology at John Overton High School, located in Nashville, TN. Students select three pathways upon entering the academy: Web Design, Programming, and Networking. Each pathway is controlled by one teacher, allowing the student to build a positive working relationship with one teacher over the course of three years. The teacher will work with that student from the ground level all the way until the students becomes a senior and is ready to tackle industry certifications. Students venture out into the real world by taking field trips, internships, and job shadows through our incredible business partners.
Teachers work tirelessly to ensure students receive not only the best education possible, but a rewarding high school experience. Tutoring is offered after school for students who may need additional academic help or for those who need to retake an assessment. Teachers work together through teaming sessions, sessions built to meet with students during a common planning, to help students struggling academically, behaviorally, or with attendance.
Students take the opportunity to participate in Cyber Security clubs and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Our FBLA teams consist of several web design and game design teams.
